Sandi: Artist & Calligrapher
Illumination Art • Calligraphy • Whimsical Illustrations
My Approach
In addition to calligraphy I create traditional art called Tezhip applying techniques that have been taught and passed down generation after generation for centuries.
My Process
After completing an original design the piece is transferred to tracing paper and then traced to watercolor paper before painting.
Why “Creation Art?”
My work incorporates my faith and belief that all of creation is sacred.
Calligraphy
I use a variety of new and vintage nibs for italic, uncial and copperplate lettering.
Ottoman Miniatures and Tezhip
Middle Eastern art emphasizes the sacred nature of creation – in a drop of water we can experience the universe.
Manuscript and Biblical Illumination
Adding designs, especially using gold, embellishes the beauty of the calligraphed word.
